A ‘Legend of Zelda’ Game Is Reborn and ’90s Nostalgia Fans Are All In

The dreams are back — visions of a dark knight on horseback, riding from a castle in the tumbling rain. An elfin child jolts awake, safely nestled inside Kokiri Forest. But this time the world doesn’t look quite the same — it’s running at 60 frames per second.

Nearly 30 years after its release, Nintendo’s hit video game, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, returned on Thursday brighter, smoother and more intricate than its main character, Link, could have imagined waking up for the first time from a prophetic nightmare that begins his adventures.

Though the latest release is nearly a one-for-one remake, game stores and the internet have been abuzz with excitement, nostalgia and glee about the return to the kingdom of Hyrule, where many began their video game journeys decades ago.
