Five Nights At Freddy’s Opening Weekend Is The Biggest For A Live-Action Video Game Movie

by Mr.T » Sun Nov 05, 2023 9:32 pm

Five Nights At Freddy’s has officially entered the silver screen record books as the biggest opening weekend for a live-action video game movie ever.

According to opening weekend numbers, the movie generated $78 million in sales in the United States on opening weekend. On top of that, it hauled in another $52.6 million overseas, bringing its opening weekend total to just about $130.6 million against a budget of just $25 million.

Despite mixed overall reviews, Five Nights At Freddy’s can only be viewed as a success for a movie that not only launched in theaters but on streaming services as well. The movie sits just behind The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which was released exclusively in theaters, as the second-biggest opening weekend of all time for a video game movie.

You can see those all-time rankings below:
  1. The Super Mario Bros. Movie
  2. Five Nights at Freddy’s
  3. Sonic the Hedgehog 2
  4. Sonic the Hedgehog
  5. Pokemon: Detective Pikachu
  6. Lara Croft: Tomb Raider
  7. Uncharted
  8. The Angry Birds Movie
  9. Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves
  10. Rampage
It’s not even just the video game movie rankings that Five Nights at Freddy’s moved up during its first weekend. It became the third-best opening weekend of all time for horror movies, only behind the two most recent It movies.
