NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 4090 GPU is going to be completely banned from sales in China starting the 17th of November.
Despite there being some reports that NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 4090 GPU won't be part of the recent export policy which restricts China from getting hands-on GPUs with a certain level of AI & compute capabilities, it looks like the ban is still occurring & MyDrives finally has an official date when it will take effect.
Starting 17th of November, NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 4090 GPUs will be completely banned from exports to China which will definitely be a major blow to NVIDIA's market share as it will lose a major chunk of the gaming and AI market. It is reported that NVIDIA has begun to increase the shipments of its AD102 chips, which are used in graphics cards such as the RTX 4090, to China so that its manufacturing partners can stock up as much inventory as possible prior to the ban.
This might lead to a shortage of NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 4090 GPUs in other markets for a brief period of time and that certainly seems to be happening within the US at the moment where the card has seen lower stock and higher prices at major retailers. There is still some confusion around the extent of this ban within the Chinese market since some retailers are trying to find a way to bypass it entirely though it is something that will only be clear after the ban is set in place. With the added stock, NVIDIA's AIB partners will be offering GeForce RTX 4090 GPUs to the client segment.
At the same time, China-based retailers are expected to hike the prices even more once the ban occurs. The prices have already doubled ever since the restrictions were announced and that can further increase by the middle of November. The report also cites that US policies have a habit of changing from day to day which is where the previous rumors surrounding the ban of GeForce RTX 4090 came from so everything should be clear by the 14th of this month.
